Dosage

0.5 kg of Herb Mix per 1000m², which can be mixed with 1.5 kg of Horse Star grass seed mixture.

Usage

Always sow the Herb Mix in combination with the Horse Star grass seed mixture according to the specified dosage. This herb mixture is suitable for overseeding when approximately 30% of bare soil is visible. Do not apply it to a fully established turf, as the seeds will not receive enough light to germinate. Of course, it can also be used for new seeding. Preferably sow from mid-August to late September. Sow the seeds superficially and roll firmly to ensure good germination.

More about Herb Mix

Herb Mix is the finest seed mixture of herbs and legumes that is always used in combination with the Horse Star grass seed mixture. A herbal pasture contains a much higher concentration of important vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, calcium, manganese, zinc, iron, copper, cobalt, and selenium. This significantly enhances the immune system of your horse or foal. Thanks to the deeper root systems of the herbs and legumes, the horse pasture is well-adapted to extreme dry and wet periods. The combination of grass and herbs attracts earthworms and beneficial soil bacteria, making the soil more active and resilient, thus promoting soil fertility. Both below ground and above ground, herbs attract life, resulting in significantly higher biodiversity compared to pure grass seed mixtures.

Composition

Herbs 58%:

  • Chicory: deep-rooted; high protein content; aids digestion; has deworming properties for the stomach and intestines.
  • Plantain: plantain helps with inflammation, kills and inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria, and has soothing effects on bleeding wounds. It helps with diarrhea and constipation, prevents respiratory issues, and also aids in managing eczema.
  • Caraway: caraway is a nutritious plant that helps prevent cramps and colic thanks to its essential oils. Caraway contains various beneficial substances such as carotene, vitamin B and C, silica, iron, and trace elements like arsenic, cobalt, copper, and nickel.
  • Small Burnet: rich in vitamin E; very palatable; has blood clotting properties.
  • Yarrow: Contains essential oils, bitter substances, flavones, tannins, and alkaloids. Yarrow improves digestion, has pain-relieving properties, prevents muscle stiffness and Monday morning syndrome.

Legumes 42%:

  • Red clover: purifies the blood, making it beneficial for animals with skin conditions. It also has expectorant properties and reduces muscle tension. Red clover strengthens and soothes the nerves.
  • White clover: most palatable clover; improves digestibility.
  • Alsike clover: condensed tannins for enhanced resistance.
  • Lucerne/Alfalfa: excellent amino acid profile. Lucerne/Alfalfa contains more digestible proteins than hay and silage grass and has a high content of beta-carotene.
  • Sainfoin: rich in condensed tannins, which stabilize the intestinal environment and have a proven effect on intestinal parasites. Sainfoin is highly beneficial for horses with metabolic issues and is drought-resistant.

Tip

Using the Herb Mix in combination with Horse Star is suitable for grazing or mowing. However, intensive grazing can result in the grass outcompeting the herbs. Therefore, it's important to periodically close off the pasture or ensure a lower stocking density of animals. The pasture can also be mowed multiple times a year, but be cautious not to mow too short (7 to 10cm) in order to preserve the herbs. Following our fertilization plan will help maintain a diverse and healthy grass and herb pasture with a long lifespan.
