Replace fertilizing with synthetic or liquid manure with organic fertilization. This will help restore an imbalanced soil to its natural equilibrium. Synthetic or liquid manure, due to their high NPK ratio (nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium), create an unbalanced mineral ratio in the soil, leading to soil acidification. The soil microorganisms do not thrive in acidic conditions and gradually diminish.

With a weak soil microorganism population, organic matter is not efficiently converted into humus, which is essential for maintaining a healthy soil structure. Humus plays a vital role in retaining and providing necessary nutrients, as well as holding 10 times more water during dry periods and absorbing excess water during wet periods. The porous structure of humus facilitates the transport of oxygen to the grass roots deep within the soil.
