New seeding

Sow your grass-clover mixture from late April to late May or from mid-August to mid-September. The seeds cannot tolerate frost. Sow them at a depth of 0.5 to 1 cm, which is shallower than regular grass seed because clover requires light to germinate.

Overseeding pasture

Ensure that the existing pasture is mowed very short to provide sufficient light for the new grass-clover mixture. Sow it at a depth of 0.5 to 1 cm and preferably sow in the first half of September.

White clover has an extremely positive impact on horses. It has a high content of protein, lignin, and minerals, and contains up to three times more calcium and magnesium than grass. The sugar content of clover is also significantly lower than that of grass.

The grass-clover mixture, such as Structo-Green, is easier to maintain than the medicinal grass-herb mixture and therefore serves as a good alternative for adding some extra variety to your horse pasture. It provides nutritious and flavorful grass that meets the dietary needs of your horses while also promoting soil health and biodiversity.

Note

It's best to maintain the proportion of clover in the pasture between 5% to 10%. Having too much clover can provide an excessive amount of easily digestible proteins for your horse. A proportion of 5% to 10% fits perfectly into a healthy diet for your horse or pony. If the proportion of clover becomes too high, consider applying some extra BelFarm organic fertilizer to the pasture to promote the growth of grass and restore balance.
